Service Description
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Class is a 6-week group training program designed for puppies ages 8 weeks to 6 months. This positive reinforcement-based course, developed by the American Kennel Club, focuses on Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsibility (S.T.A.R.) to help puppies build a strong foundation for lifelong success. Early puppyhood is a critical developmental period, making this class the perfect opportunity to teach essential life skills and basic manners, including attention to their handler, sit, down, coming when called, leash walking, polite greetings, and impulse control. Through guided socialization and age-appropriate training exercises, puppies learn how to navigate new environments, people, and experiences with confidence. Beyond teaching obedience skills, this class is designed to help prevent common future behavioral challenges such as fearfulness, reactivity, poor impulse control, inappropriate jumping, and difficulty coping with novel situations. By focusing on positive experiences and effective communication, owners will develop a stronger bond with their puppy while establishing healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Upon successful completion of the course, puppies will earn the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy medal, ribbon, and certificate, recognizing their achievement and preparing them for future training opportunities, including the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program.
